Project Vision & Overview

A New Era in Seniors Care

St. Vincent’s Heather is more than a care home; it’s a promise of freedom, choice and dignity. Our goal is to provide the very best care, all while empowering residents to live life on their terms.

Providence Health Care has partnered with Providence Living, a sister organization created in 2017 by Providence Health Care, to implement Providence Living’s Home for Us social-relational model of care at St. Vincent’s Heather.

Providence Living’s Home for Us model of care will transform publicly funded caregiving from being traditionally task-oriented to one that puts residents and their families at the heart of everything we do.

Home for Us allows our care providers to build daily routines around the skills, abilities, and interests that our residents have retained rather than those they may have lost.

We’re creating a vibrant, caring community where seniors can thrive and families and loved ones can be part of every precious moment.

Families Stay Together

We understand the importance of family bonds. We’ve designed a few special suites with connecting doors to let couples and families stay together.

The 13-storey facility will include 20 households that will accommodate 12 residents each in single-bed rooms and include the social and recreational spaces found in a typical home. These spaces include a living room, dining room and activity space. Every room will have a wheelchair accessible ensuite.

The home will have community spaces on the main floor. These spaces will allow residents, families, visitors and staff to access recreational, social, and health services. These services include:

  • Primary care services
  • Catholic Chapel
  • Community garden
  • 37-space childcare centre
  • Sacred space for worship, reflection, and spiritual practice including Indigenous ceremonial practices
  • Community hall
  • Library
  • Theatre
  • Café
  • Grocery store
  • Creative and exercise/therapy space
  • Hairdressing services

Location

St. Vincent’s Heather will be built on the former site of St. Vincent’s Hospital, which served the Vancouver community for 65 years.
